The market for offshore trusts is becoming ever more sophisticated and the requirements of our international clients ever more demanding.
We brought our offshore trust operations together as Rathbone Trust International in September 2006, a move which reflected the increasingly international nature of our clients’ family and business interests - with complex financial interests and advisory needs spanning several jurisdictions.
Rathbone Trust International is an international business specialising in the provision of trustee, corporate and family office services from offices in Jersey, Geneva, Singapore and the British Virgin Islands, affiliated offices in New Zealand and the Netherlands, and through partners and associates in other jurisdictions.
We pride ourselves on the provision of intelligent, proactive and informed fiduciary and corporate services for private individuals, their families and their family offices, wherever based.
We have specialist corporate trust expertise with a substantial and growing business centred on structures for commercial clients including employee benefit trusts, expert funds and other investment vehicles such as Jersey limited partnerships and unit trusts.
In conjunction with our colleagues in the UK where specifically requested we have the capacity to offer a wide-ranging UK tax service including specialist advice on the UK aspects of offshore structures, tax compliance, tax accounting and advice on handling negotiations with HM Revenue and Customs.
Rathbone Trust International is professionally-based with a significant number of the client-facing directors and many other senior staff being lawyers and members of STEP.
Jersey offers expertise in trusts generally and the local law is being updated in many respects to allow greater flexibility. There will also be other beneficial changes, particularly for family offices. Jersey and Geneva will be able to offer foundations and trusts, allowing significant powers to be reserved to the settlor.
Through Geneva we offer Swiss solutions, specialist civil law-based planning, and the establishment and day-to-day administration of European holding, trading, financing, and royalty vehicles, in addition to the more traditional trusts and foundations, while the BVI enables us to offer VISTA trusts and local companies.
