Management team changes at Rathbones

Rathbone Brothers Plc, a leading provider of discretionary fund management and wealth management services for private clients and trustees, today outlines its new senior management structure following Roy Morris’ retirement.

As previously announced, Andy Pomfret, currently Finance Director, will become Chief Executive. Sue Desborough, currently Group Financial Controller, succeeds Andy Pomfret as Finance Director.

Richard Lanyon is to become Head of Investment Management, with responsibility for Rathbones’ £7 billion private client discretionary investment management and unit trust activities.

Head of Operations Paul Chavasse’s role becomes Chief Operating Officer to reflect more accurately his responsibility for operational and IT infrastructure.

Roy Morris, Rathbones’ Chief Executive, will remain on the Board of Rathbones as a Non-Executive Director.

Mark Powell, Chairman of Rathbones said, “Roy has made a massive contribution to the business and Andy is taking over at the head of a strong management team enabling us to build on our very positive long-term performance record. The team is well equipped to manage our broadening interests and take advantage of the opportunities ahead.”

Biographical Notes

Andy Pomfret, 44, joined Rathbones in 1999 as Finance Director, having originally qualified with Peat Marwick & Mitchell (now KPMG) as a Chartered Accountant. He spent 13 years with Kleinwort Benson Group, latterly as Finance Director of Kleinwort Benson Private Bank. Andy is also a Non-Executive Director of Beazley Group plc.

Sue Desborough, 44, joined Rathbones in November 2000 from Kleinwort Benson Private Bank where she was Head of Financial and Regulatory Reporting. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Deloitte Haskins & Sells.

Paul Chavasse, 40, is responsible for the Group’s investment operations and IT infrastructure. He started his career working for the institutional fund management arm of NatWest, which was later merged with Gartmore. After a period in the private client businesses of NatWest and Coutts, his final role before joining the Group in 2001, was as head of NatWest Portfolio Management in Bristol. He was appointed to the Board in 2001.

Richard Lanyon, 52, is the Director responsible for Rathbones’ investment management business in London. He has spent the majority of his career in private client investment management. Initially with Laurence Prust, he moved to Framlington Group Plc in 1986 where he was the Board member responsible for pension funds. Richard joined the Group in 1992 to concentrate on private client discretionary investment management and was appointed a director in 1996.
